What is the Fiber network?

The Fiber network is an optical fiber network in Cyprus and it enables the transmission of data at very fast speeds. This innovative technology provides Internet access at speeds of up to 1Gbps!.

What are the optical fibers used in the Fiber network?

Optical fibers are very fine strands of glass that use light to transmit data much faster than traditional copper cables. So, it could be said that, through optical fibers, data travels at the speed of light.

Why do we need faster internet speeds?

In today’s digital era, everything is changing about the way we learn, work, communicate and live, how we understand the world and ourselves in it. The Fiber network allows people to exploit the technologies of the future with new generation networks, thereby raising their standard of living and improving their business activities.

 

The tools and applications that people use on a daily basis to communicate with friends and family, the simultaneous connection of multiple devices (smartphones, tablets, game consoles, security systems, etc.), faster download/upload speeds, better quality streaming and so much more require, among other things, immediate and fast data transmission.

 

A fast and reliable internet connection using optical fibers greatly improves the whole experience in terms of quality and productivity.

Will the FirstNet Fiber Network reach my home?

Yes, the optical fiber will reach your home itself.

What are the advantages of fiber technology?

Data is transmitted as light signals through small, flexible strands of glass at speeds of up to 1 Gbps.Such speeds are ideal for virtually any online activity, such as:  

  • Sending and receiving photos, videos and other large files immediately
  • Simultaneous connection of multiple devices, such as computers, mobile devices, tablets, game consoles, security systems, etc.
  • Online gaming with no buffering

The Fiber network is also extremely reliable and is not impaired by issues that can affect an xDSL connection and speed, such as interference from other electrical sources/cables, the weather and the distance from the Internet Service Provider’s network.

What speeds are available on the Fiber network?

For Home Fiber products, all the current speeds of 100/200/300/500Mbps and 1Gbps.

For Business Fiber products, all the current speeds of 150/400/700Mbps and 1Gbps.

FirstNet is not my internet service provider. What must I do to connect to the FirstNet Fiber network?

Click here and enter your address to see if the Fiber network is available in your area. If it is, you can complete the relevant application form. In any event, you can contact the FirstNet Call Centre on 135.

Will I need to do any work in my home before I can connect to the Fiber network?

Connecting to the Fiber network is simple. Once you have applied to connect, we call you to arrange a day and time for our technical crew to visit you to install the optical fiber and the special equipment in your home. The procedure should take approximately one hour. In an apartment block, the connection will be made on the ground floor of the building up to and inside your apartment. In this case, we kindly ask you to inform the individual or company responsible for the administration of the building.

How can I check the speed of my service?

Is my IP address always the same?

Yes, the IP address of your connection will remain the same.

What should I do when my modem won’t synchronise?

If the modem still does not synchronise, you should contact the Call Center at 135 or electronically via email, or Live Chat for further checking.

Does it cause any problems if I switch off the modem at night?

The modem is built to operate continuously without sustaining any damage. However, you can switch it off if you wish without causing any damage.

What should I do if the power LED on my modem is red or orange?

You can unplug the power cable for two minutes. When you reconnect it, the LED should be blue. If this does not happen, you will need to change the modem.

Why is my Internet connection slow?

If there is no fault on your telephone line or with your modem, speed may be affected by the program you are using to access the Internet, the antivirus program you are using or even the large number of wired or wireless devices that you have connected.

At what distance can I use the wireless modem without disconnection problems?

The more open a space is without obstacles, whether they be walls or wireless devices, the stronger signal reception will be. We recommend that if there are signal problems, you should change the wireless channel on the modem website for the best possible result.
